The president of the 10th European Craniofacial Congress, Dr Hans Mark gave a background to previously discussions among European colleagues about the need to initiate the foundation of a European Cleft Palate - Craniofacial Association at the 10th European Craniofacial Congress in Gothenburg.
An European Cleft-Craniofacial Association could be an important tool to not only increasing interaction within the craniofacial teams but also between European countries as well as other countries around the world. The ECPCA could also be an authority for collaboration in research as well as important clinical issues to improve the cleft palate and craniofacial treatment in Europe.
Not many countries had representatives from a national association in Gothenburg and therefore the assembly agreed on the proposed voting procedure: one vote for each person attending the business meeting.
A voting procedure were performed and a unanimous assembly agreed on founding, The European Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association, ECPCA.
- A unanimous assembly then agreed on that the first board of ECPCA is the organizing committee of the next congress meeting 2019. The assembly had previously during the meeting voted for University Medical Center Utrecht to organize the next congress 2019 and the president will be Corstiaan Breugem. The 2019 congress organization and President Corstiaan Breugem will therefore be the first board of ECPCA and therefore have the legally mandate of steering and develop ECPCA until 2019.
- A unanimous assembly also agreed on that the proposed constitution for ECPCA that previously was sent out to all participants and also linked to the website of the congress is accepted. The assembly also agreed on that the board of ECPCA can work on changes in this draft and changes can be made at the next meeting 2019.
